Photo permission checklist
Questions to talk through before photographing people or sharing images.
A conversation guide — not legal advice and not a consent form.
Before taking a photo
- Have I asked the person, and did they clearly agree?
- Do they know how the photo might be used?
- Do they know they can say no, or change their mind later?
- Is anyone else in the frame who hasn’t agreed?
Each use needs its own permission
- Taking the photo
- Keeping it in a private portfolio
- Publishing it — for example on a website or social media
- Using it for fundraising
- Using it as part of a creative work
Afterwards
- Store photos somewhere private and secure
- Remove an image if someone changes their mind, where you can
- Credit the photographer and the people involved, if they want to be named
